Introduction to Licensing

This module will introduce you to the different license available to you when you want to share your code or data with others. These licenses set the terms and conditions by which others can use and manipulate your data, your work is more likely to be used and cited by others if the conditions of how they can use your work and data are clear. Once you grasp the different licenses available, you can start sharing your project work.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this module you should be able to:

  • a. Understand the different features that form licenses
  • b. Pick an appropriate license that matches the needs you have for how your data is going to be shared, and reused by others.
  • c. Understand the different philosophies behind licences and how those philosophies are implemented through the clauses in the different licences.
